Bakery-Style Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Thick and chewy with golden, crisped edges and melty chocolate pockets throughout—these classic bakery-style cookies are loaded with chocolate chunks for the perfect balance of gooey center and soft bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and both sugars until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in chocolate chunks.
  6. Scoop large dough balls (about 3 tbsp each) and place on the prepared sheet, spacing them out.
  7. Bake for 12–14 minutes or until edges are golden and centers are just set.
  8. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • Feel free to use milk chocolate or dark chocolate chunks for a different flavor profile.
  • If you prefer a crispier edge, extend the baking time by a couple of minutes.
