Ingredients

Scale

Bread

  • 1 large Italian bread loaf
  • 3 tablespoons garlic butter
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Filling

  • 450g thinly sliced beef
  • 1 cup mixed sliced bell peppers
  • 1 cup sliced onions
  • 2 cups shredded provolone cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) to get it ready for baking the stuffed bread.
  2. Prepare vegetables: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the garlic butter then add the sliced onions and mixed bell peppers. Sauté them until they are softened and fragrant.
  3. Cook beef: Add the thinly sliced beef to the same skillet with the vegetables. Season with salt and pepper and cook until the beef is browned and cooked through.
  4. Prepare bread: Slice the Italian bread loaf lengthwise and carefully scoop out some of the soft bread inside to create a hollow space for the filling, making sure to keep the crust intact.
  5. Fill bread: Stuff the hollowed bread with the cooked beef, onions, and bell pepper mixture evenly inside.
  6. Add cheese: Generously top the filled bread with shredded provolone cheese to create a cheesy layer.
  7. Bake: Place the stuffed bread on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese has melted thoroughly and is bubbly and golden.
  8. Slice and garnish: Remove from oven and allow it to cool slightly. Slice the stuffed garlic bread into portions and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a sprinkle of Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes to the filling.
  • If provolone cheese is unavailable, mozzarella or a mild white cheddar can be good substitutes.
  • Make sure not to remove too much bread from the loaf to maintain a sturdy base for the filling.
  • This recipe is best served fresh and warm for optimal texture and taste.
  • You can prepare the filling ahead of time and assemble just before baking to save time.
