- 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Seasonings and Sauces
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
Cheese and Bread
- 4 slices provolone cheese (or mozzarella/cheddar)
- 2 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
- 1 tbsp butter
- Heat Oil: Warm ½ tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the vegetables.
- Sauté Vegetables: Add the thinly sliced onions and bell peppers to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes until they are soft and caramelized. Remove them from the pan and set aside.
- Add More Oil: In the same pan, add the remaining ½ tablespoon of olive oil to cook the chicken.
- Cook Chicken and Season: Add the thinly sliced chicken breasts, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika to the pan.
- Sauté Chicken: Cook the chicken mixture for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly browned.
- Combine Vegetables with Chicken: Lower the heat and return the cooked onions and peppers to the pan with the chicken.
- Melt Cheese: Layer the cheese slices on top of the chicken and vegetable mixture, then cover the pan for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Toast Rolls: Butter the insides of the hoagie rolls and toast them in a separate pan over medium heat for about 2 minutes until they are golden brown.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Fill each toasted roll with the cheesy chicken and vegetable mixture.
- Serve: Serve the sandwiches hot with your choice of fries, chips, or a side salad. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or cheddar according to your preference.
- The green bell pepper is optional but adds a nice crunch and flavor.
- For extra flavor, consider adding a splash of hot sauce or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
- Use fresh chicken breasts and slice them thinly to ensure they cook evenly and remain juicy.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the melted cheese and warm sandwich at its best.
