Chocolate-Dipped Orange Madeleines

Delicately soft French madeleines infused with fresh orange zest and dipped in rich dark chocolate, perfect for an elegant afternoon treat or a luxurious snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup dark chocolate, melted (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a madeleine pan and dust with flour.
  2. In a bowl, beat eggs and sugar until pale and thick (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add vanilla extract and orange zest, and mix gently.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture until just combined.
  6. Gradually add melted butter and fold until the batter is smooth.
  7. Spoon batter into the prepared madeleine molds, filling each about 3/4 full.
  8. Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until edges are golden and centers spring back when touched.
  9. Cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Dip the shell side of each madeleine into the melted chocolate, let set on parchment.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a madeleine pan, a mini muffin tin can be used as a substitute, though the shape will differ.
  • For extra orange flavor, add a small amount of orange juice to the batter.
  • Ensure the chocolate is not too hot when dipping to prevent it from melting into the madeleine.
