Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies with crisp edges, loaded with melty chocolate and a rich buttery flavor.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9–11 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are set.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, slightly underbake by a minute or two.
  • Use room temperature butter for easier creaming.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
