Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 ½ cups (about 6 oz) imitation crab meat, finely chopped
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Assembly

  • 10 egg roll wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil (enough for deep frying, about 2 inches in depth)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, finely chopped imitation crab meat, sliced green onions, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture until it is smooth and thoroughly combined, creating a creamy, flavorful filling.
  2. Assemble the Egg Rolls: Lay one egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface in a diamond shape with one corner facing you. Spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of the crab filling into the center of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the two side corners toward the center. Roll the wrapper tightly toward the top corner, brushing the edge with beaten egg to seal the roll. Repeat this process for the remaining wrappers and filling.
  3. Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot to a depth of about 2 inches. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C), ideal for frying the egg rolls to a golden crisp.
  4. Fry Until Golden: Carefully place 2–3 egg rolls into the heated oil at a time, frying them for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until they turn a deep golden brown and become crisp. Use tongs to turn them and ensure even cooking. Once fried, remove the egg rolls from the oil and drain excess oil by placing them on paper towels.
  5. Serve Warm: Serve the Crab Rangoon Egg Rolls immediately while warm, paired with your favorite dipping sauce such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce for a perfect appetizer experience.

Notes

  • For best results, keep the filling chilled before assembling to help manage cream cheese softness.
  • If preferred, substitute imitation crab with real crab meat for a more authentic flavor.
  • Ensure oil temperature stays steady at 350°F to prevent greasy or undercooked egg rolls.
  • Egg roll wrappers can be found in the refrigerated section of most grocery stores or in Asian markets.
  • These egg rolls can be baked at 400°F for 15-20 minutes as a healthier alternative; brush with oil before baking to achieve crispiness.
