Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Vegetables

  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 large bell peppers (green, red, or mixed), diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Dairy & Cheese

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

Other Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray to ensure easy removal and cleanup.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onions and bell peppers, cooking them for 5-6 minutes until they soften and release their fragrance. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds while stirring continuously to avoid burning.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Break it up with a spatula and season generously with salt and pepper. Cook for 7-8 minutes until the beef is fully browned with no pink remaining. Drain any excess fat if necessary to avoid sogginess.
  4. Add Flavor and Cream Cheese: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce to coat the beef mixture evenly, enhancing the flavor. Lower the heat to low, then add the softened cream cheese. Stir continuously until the cream cheese is fully melted and the mixture becomes creamy and combined.
  5. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Tear the provolone cheese into pieces and layer them over the beef mixture evenly. Finally, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top to create a delicious, melty cheese layer.
  6. Bake and Rest: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 22-25 minutes until the cheese on top is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden. Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the casserole to set.

Notes

  • Choose high-fat content ground beef (80/20) for juicier and more flavorful results.
  • Drain excess fat from the cooked meat mixture to keep the casserole firm and not greasy.
  • You can substitute provolone cheese with cheddar cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • Use fresh vegetables for the best texture and flavor.
  • This casserole can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated for a quick meal.
