Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers offer a delicious low-carb twist on traditional burgers by replacing buns with tender cabbage slices. Ingredients

Scale

Produce

  • 1 small head of cabbage (cut into thick slices)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

Meat & Dairy

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • 1 egg (optional, for binding)

Pantry

  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare the Cabbage: Slice the cabbage into thick rounds approximately ½-inch thick. Brush both sides of each slice with olive oil, then arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Make the Burger Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and egg if using. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Assemble the Burgers: Take a handful of the meat mixture and press it firmly onto each cabbage slice, shaping the mixture into a patty that covers the cabbage slice evenly.
  5. Bake: Place the assembled cabbage burgers in the oven and bake for 25 minutes until the meat is cooked through.
  6. Add Cheese and Broil: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle shredded cheese on top of each burger. Switch your oven setting to broil and broil for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and has a slight golden color.
  7. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve your cabbage burgers hot accompanied by sour cream, mustard, or your preferred dipping sauce for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Using ground turkey instead of beef can reduce the fat content.
  • Egg is optional but helps bind the meat mixture for easier shaping.
  • Try adding fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro to the meat mixture for extra flavor.
  • Ensure cabbage slices are thick enough to hold the burger toppings without falling apart.
  • Broiling the cheese adds a delicious golden finish – watch closely to prevent burning.
