- Prepare the skillet and butter: Place the skillet on the stovetop and turn the heat to medium. Add the butter to the skillet and allow it to melt completely.
- Cook the tortilla: Place the tortilla onto the buttered skillet and use a spatula to move it around, coating the underside with melted butter evenly.
- Add cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese evenly over the tortilla surface. Wait until the cheese begins to melt.
- Fold and cook: Use the spatula to carefully fold the tortilla in half. Cook for about 1 minute on each side or until the cheese is fully melted and the tortilla has a golden-brown, crispy crust.
- Air fryer method preparation: Butter the outside of the tortilla thoroughly. Place the tortilla in the air fryer basket. Sprinkle the cheese on one half of the tortilla, fold it in half and use a toothpick to secure it closed.
- Air fry the quesadilla: Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking. Check the basket during the first few minutes to prevent the tortilla from floating up inside the fryer.
