3.8 from 85 reviews

This homemade Carrot Applesauce is a nutritious and delicious recipe perfect for babies and toddlers. Combining naturally sweet apples and carrots with warm spices like cinnamon and cloves, it creates a comforting and healthy snack or side dish that can be pureed to a smooth texture for babies or left slightly chunky for toddlers and family members.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 6 apples, chopped (see notes for preferred apple varieties)
  • 34 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the chopped apples, peeled and chopped carrots, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla extract, and water into a medium or large stock pot.
  2. Cook the Mixture: Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer, cover the pot, and cook for 35-45 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and cook until the carrots are fork-tender.
  3. Cool Slightly: Remove the pot from heat and let the fruit and vegetable mixture cool for a few minutes so it is safe and easier to blend.
  4. Blend to Desired Consistency: Transfer the cooked mixture to a blender or food processor. For toddlers and family applesauce, pulse for about 20 seconds to achieve a chunky texture. For babies, puree the mixture for 1-2 minutes until smooth and creamy, ensuring it is an appropriate consistency for young children.

Notes

  • Use sweet and soft apple varieties like Fuji or Gala for best flavor and texture.
  • Adjust water quantity to get your preferred applesauce thickness.
  • This applesauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Make sure the mixture has cooled enough before serving to babies to avoid burns.
  • Cinnamon and cloves add warmth but can be adjusted or omitted depending on baby’s tolerance.
