Deliciously crispy hoisin chicken thighs marinated in a sweet and savory hoisin-honey sauce, broiled to perfection for a slightly charred, flavorful finish. Perfect for an easy weeknight dinner or meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 6 boneless chicken thighs
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Marinade & Garnish

  • 2 cups hoisin sauce
  • 1 cup honey
  • 2 tbsps sesame oil
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Fresh chopped parsley or thinly sliced chives, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken: Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness during cooking. Season both sides evenly with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to build flavor.
  2. Make the marinade: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the hoisin sauce, honey, and sesame oil. Stir well until fully mixed. Reserve 1/4 cup of this marinade for basting later.
  3. Marinate the chicken: Add the seasoned chicken thighs to the bowl and toss them to thoroughly coat with the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to overnight to allow flavors to penetrate.
  4. Preheat the oven broiler: When ready to cook, position the oven rack about 6 inches from the broiler element and preheat the broiler on high. Line a baking sheet with foil and brush a thin layer of sesame oil on top to prevent sticking.
  5. Broil the chicken: Arrange the marinated chicken thighs in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Broil for 10-15 minutes on one side until edges start to char, then carefully flip and broil another 10-15 minutes on the other side until cooked through and crispy.
  6. Serve: Transfer the cooked chicken thighs to a serving dish. Brush the reserved marinade sauce over the top for extra flavor. Garnish with sesame seeds and fresh parsley or sliced chives before serving.

Notes

  • For best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight.
  • Watch the chicken closely while broiling to prevent burning due to the sugars in the marinade.
  • Bone-in thighs can be used but adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • Serve with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
