Ingredients

Scale

Tofu Ground Beef

  • 1 block (200g) extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon marmite
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne chili pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (395°F) to prepare for baking the tofu mixture.
  2. Drain tofu: Drain the tofu and pat it dry thoroughly using a clean cloth, squeezing gently to remove as much water as possible, ensuring a better texture.
  3. Crumble tofu: Using your hands, crumble the tofu into a bowl to create a mince-like texture, ideal for resembling ground beef.
  4. Mix marinade: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, tomato paste, olive oil, marmite, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne chili pepper, salt, and black pepper to form a flavorful marinade.
  5. Marinate tofu: Pour three-quarters of the marinade over the crumbled tofu and stir thoroughly to evenly coat every piece, infusing flavor throughout.
  6. Prepare baking tray: Line a baking tray with baking paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  7. Bake tofu: Spread the marinated tofu mixture evenly on the baking tray and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the tofu is slightly crispy on the edges, enhancing its texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Patting and squeezing the tofu dry is crucial for achieving a good texture and allowing it to absorb the marinade better.
  • Adjust cayenne chili pepper to your preferred heat level or omit for a milder dish.
  • This tofu ground beef works well as a substitute in recipes like tacos, pasta sauces, or stir-fries.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For extra crispiness, you can broil the tofu for an additional 2-3 minutes at the end of baking, watching carefully to prevent burning.
